PEER MENTORING AND TUTORING

As the 5th grade students make their way through the school year, the boys 2 MEN students of Magnolia and Edgewood Middle Schools visit the elementary schools monthly for peer mentoring and tutoring.   Elementary students are paired with a middle school tutors/mentors for the school year.  Through this portion of the program, the elementary students become familiar with the boys 2 MEN Mentoring Program, academically, socially and culturally. They also learn the brotherhood of the program which allows the older youths to guide the elementary students through their commitment, dedication and support for each other.

Friendly Competition

As an introduction to boys 2 MEN, the 5th grade students at William Paca and Edgewood Elementary, as well as, Riverside and Joppatowne Elementary played a friendly game of basketball at their soon to be middle schools.  As part of the peer mentoring program of boys 2 MEN the students were coached and assisted by the boys 2 MEN students of Magnolia and Edgewood Middle Schools.  The upcoming 5th grade students got a sneak peak of what the boys 2 MEN  After School Athletic portion of the program is like and how the group as a whole, gives back to their community.  Each game was played to honor students who we tragically lost this year.  All proceeds from the games were donated to the families of those students.

A great time was had by all on May 18th at Magnolia Middle School.  As a result of the launch of the boys 2 MEN Peer Mentoring Program in Joppatowne and Riverside Elementary Schools, boys 2 MEN sponsored a basketball game for the new 5th grade members of boys 2 MEN.  Students, parents, teachers, administration and fans from both schools came out to support their team.  Both teams played a great game, but Riverside went home with the win!

The boys 2 MEN Peer Mentoring Program is currently operating in the two elementary schools. Monthly, boys 2 MEN (students, as well as, Pastor Reeves and Mr. Reeves) from MMS visit their peers and individually assist them with their classwork, homework, and other peer issues which may have transpired since their last visit.  As a whole, the program was developed to gradually assist with the transition from elementary school to middle school, preparing the young men for their new surroundings.
